The Sea Is Calling You
The story of The Old Man and The Sea has fascinated me for years. It taught me the philosophy of life. I came up with a list of rules and principles to lead me through the journey I had chosen to embark on.
Back a couple of years ago, I used to be a weak shy person, someone who had no confidence, whatsoever, to even speak to his close relatives and friends and share his feelings and dreams with them. Living in a poor family in a secluded area with the least possible facilities to live a normal life, I was always trying to avoid others, creeping into my own world of solitude and loneliness. I was nervous, moody and not at all hopeful.
Life looked sad and cruel to me; my future life loomed bleak and gloomy. I never thought I could find a way out of darkness and hopelessness. All I was dreaming was a life like my parents’, sweet, hardworking peasants who would work all day long to feed their children, say their grace and go to bed early to save energy for the next day to come.
While everyone was sleeping, I was thinking about my life and that of those around me, a life of misery and sadness.
I was made fun of by my peers. Even my parents thought I was weird.
As much as I did not enjoy spending time with others, I was interested in reading. A love of reading was kindled in me by my uncle, who used to buy…
